Julie is pictured presenting a grant cheque for £1,000 from the St. James’s Place Foundation to Antoune Holmes of the District 1270 Disability Games Committee. Local Rotary Clubs in the Lincolnshire and South Yorkshire region have been raising funds over the last 2 years to support the cost of hosting a regional Disability Games event at the Scunthorpe PODS over a 3 year period. The aim is to raise in total around £30,000 and many local and national businesses have provided sponsorship to bring this large regional event together. It has so far been hosted in April 2015, and will be repeated in April 2016 and 2017 before moving onto another Region in the Rotary District.
This event is eagerly anticipated by its competitors, many of whom have been entering into these indoor multiple sporting events for many years. They not only look forward to competing but also to renewing old friendships made over the years with the other competitors. This is a very enjoyable day for the competitors of which there are now 500 who arrive with their carers’. This type of event would also not be possible without Rotary members and other Volunteers, who selflessly give up their time to make a difference in the lives of others.
